The Tabriz Refinery was designed in 1974 and after the operations related to the construction, was reached to the exploitation stage on February 1977. On January 1998, on the basis of the instant policies, the handling of Tabriz Refinery was changed to the firm type and has started its new period of activities as "Tabriz Oil Refining Company". This firm is placed in the south-west of the Tabriz city, with the area of about 150 hectares and about 1362 meters high from the sea level. The nominal capacity of this company was 80000 barrels per day that with executing the responsibilities augmenting schemes; nominal capacity has been increased to 110000 barrels per day. The needed crude oil is supplied from the Ahvaz-Asmari oil fields by the Rey facilities via a 16 inches pipeline. The Tabriz Oil Refining Company consists of 14 refining units and 10 units related to other services. The products of the company are tested and controlled in central laboratory of the refinery on the basis of international standards and specifications defined by National Iranian Oil Company (NIOC) and National Iranian Oil Refining and Distributing Company (NIORDC) , and after receiving ultimate conformations, are transmitted to National Iranian Oil Distributing Company(NIODC) . A project named as: Caspian Sea Republic Oil Swap (CROS) with the aim of productivity of the crude oil of the countries around the Caspian Sea, and raising the narrow passes of the augmenting capacity scheme, has been executed on March 2003, hence the company has owned the capability of various crude oil productivity.
The Tabriz Oil Refining Company in order to modernize of organization and management system, in directional of national and international transitions . has tried to stabilize the new management standards in 1998, and on December 1999 was successful to get the Quality Management Certificate on the basis of ISO 9000 -1994. Following that besides stabilizing Suggestions System as a part of partnership management system . I n 2000 establish of environmental management on the basis of ISO 14000 Standard has begun and has accomplished this goal on October 2000. The Company started to establish the Occupational Health and Safety Management on the basis of OHSAS 18000 Standards and simultaneously promoted the Quality Management Certificate to ISO 9000-2000 and controlled the mentioned systems’ management and finally adopted the Integrated Management System Certificate (IMS) on December 2001.
